Use 52, 26, 24 or 12 only when PTO posts at that frequency. For an hours-worked policy, divide by the annual eligible-hour basis stated by the employer. A 2,080-hour denominator is common for a 40-hour, 52-week reference year but is not universal.

Carry precision into the balance

A displayed rate may be rounded while payroll retains more digits. Multiplying a rounded rate by every period can create a small year-end difference. When auditing a balance, compare the stored rate, the posting rule and any final adjustment.
